New York, NY, Mar.
09, 2001 -- For the fifth year in a row, premiere mobile recording specialist,
Effanel Music, recorded and mixed the live Grammy Awards' telecast, utilizing
its 128-input Capricorn digital mixing console in the company's mobile
recording studio. Effanel mixed all of the live performances for the Grammy's
broadcast, as well as a 24-bit multi-track recording for archival and
DVD release. The event was broadcast on February 21st on CBS from the
Staples Center in Los Angeles.
"After five years, the Capricorn is the most powerful and sophisticated
system being used on a major music show," said Effanel Music Owner Randy
Ezratty. "During our four previous Grammy broadcasts using the Capricorn,
we've recorded a total of 62 live performances on the Grammys, with zero
failures and 100 percent productivity. When we first started mixing the
Grammys with this console, everyone was awed by the fidelity and power
of the Capricorn, but were skeptical of using a digital console on a live
show of this magnitude."
Ezratty attributes the Capricorn's fully automated and instantly resettable
operations with much of the success of the live Grammy recordings. "The
Capricorn has always offered us the ability to fine tune our mixes from
rehearsal recordings up to the actual show, and execute in seconds a highly
nuanced, preset mix."
Performers at this year's Grammy's included: U2, Paul Simon, 'N Sync,
Christina Aguilera, Dolly Parton and Madonna.
Manning the Capricorn at the Grammy's for Effanel was Senior Mixer John
Harris, Mixer Adam Blackburn, Chief Engineer John Bates, and Recording
Technician Hardi Kamsani.
Effanel Music also has a second Capricorn digital mixing console for in-studio
use. The 72-fader, 256-path Capricorn allows Effanel to mix two projects
simultaneously and continue mixes of live events recorded initially on
Effanel's remote Capricorn. The board is housed in an 800-square foot
tracking/mixing/project space, designed to accommodate surround mixes.
The board was recently used to mix television special programs for 'N
Sync and Britney Spears, TNT's Special Olympics' White House Christmas
concert, a CD for Real World Records' artist Jocelyn Pook, and a U2 remix
for a segment of MTV's Total Request Live.
From the Capricorn-equipped mobile recording studio, Effanel recently
mixed Ricky Martin's performance on Super Bowl Saturday Night for the
CBS broadcast, the Wyclef Jean Foundation Carnegie Hall concert, VH-1's
My Music Awards, U2's live radio broadcast, Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds
live concert, and the GQ Awards.
