12, 2001 -- Emagic has announced Logic Audio 5.0, a major upgrade to its
audio editing suite for Macintosh and Windows. The upgrade, due to ship
in September, includes integration with Mackie's new Logic Control hardware
system, offering hands-on control over hundreds of MIDI and audio functions,
including the new automation system. New features in version 5 are too numerous
to list here, but highlights include:
- New Automation System: Logic Audio‘s automation has been fundamentally
revisited in Version 5. The automation system, which now handles 32-bit
fader values, is tied to individual Tracks, rather than Arrange window
sequences and audio regions. When these objects are moved or copied,
the automation data can be moved or copied with them. Automation
data, sections or automation nodes can be moved or copied independently
of sequences and audio regions. Track Automation write modes are independent
of the sequencer "Record" mode and track selection. Automation data
can be edited in real time or offline, using several new modes. Automated
parameters are
descriptively displayed with their name and values.
- More than 50 plugins in Logic Audio Platinum. New filters include:
Adaptive Limiter, SubBass, Phase Distortion, DeEsser, Clip Distortion,
Tremolo and Exciter. Also included are several mastering plugins, including
StereoSpread, Denoiser, Limiter and Multiband Compressor.
- Individual output support of Audio Instruments. Twenty-four Audio
Instruments are supported in Logic Audio Platinum Version 5. Each can
take advantage of individual output support available in the EXS24 and
many VST 2.0 instrument plugins.
- Hardware-independent audio scrubbing regardless of the audio hardware
or drivers used.
- With the release of Version 5, all products in the Logic Audio Series
(Platinum, Gold, Silver and MicroLogic AV) will offer support for 24-bit/96
kHz.
- Score Editor enhancements include Multiple Page View, which automatically
adjusts to optimally fit the current screen size with respect to selected
zoom levels, and a new step-time input and editing facility with freely
assignable key commands. Other enhancements include notation of aliases
and looped sequences, nested tuplets, beamed grace notes and the ability
to color notes for easier polyphonic score editing.
- New file format support, incorporating REX2.0, allowing the import
of Propellerheads' REX2.0 format files directly into the Arrange window
or EXS24.
Logic Audio 5 is expected to be released in September. The price structure
will be changed so that the new releases will cost approximately what
the older version cost, plus the price of the upgrade. Specific pricing
was not available at press time. For more information, visit http://www.emagic.de.
