RISSKOV, Denmark (Mar. 05, 2003) -- TC Electronic has announced PowerCore FireWire, a new version of its PowerCore audio processing platform that is designed for FireWire-equipped laptop or desktop systems. This addition offers almost twice the power of the PCI-card version, the company says.

PowerCore Firewire opens the platform to mobile musicians and producers, notes Ralf Schluenzen, CEO of TC Works. [an error occurred while processing this directive]PowerCore Firewire offers the same architecture as PowerCore PCI, featuring a Motorola PowerPC and four Motorola DSPs. All signal processing is performed on the PowerCore unit, freeing up host performance resources for virtual instruments or native plug-ins. The hardware specifications go beyond those of the original card, featuring faster DSPs, a faster PowerPC and three times the amount of RAM per DSP.

PowerCore Firewire is the new top-of-the-line PowerCore product, according to Product Manager John Epperson.

PowerCore Firewire is fully compatible with PowerCore PCI -- in fact, PowerCore FireWire and PowerCore PCI can be used simultaneously in the same system. PowerCore PCI continues to represent the choice for desktop user.

  • 4 x Motorola 56K DSPs running at 150 MHz
  • 512kWords of SRAM per DSP
  • 1 x Motorola PowerPC running at 266 MHz
  • 8 MB DRAM for the PowerPC
