TOKYO (Apr. 07, 2004) --

InterVideo, Inc., the company that first ported Microsoft Windows Media Technology to Linux-based CE devices, announced today the successful demonstration of InterVideo InstantON's new Windows Media Audio (WMA) 9 playback support at the Intel Developer Forum Japan, which is being held at the Hilton Tokyo Bay Hotel April 7-8, 2004.

The WMA 9 format has become increasingly popular because is combines high-quality sound with small file sizes--users can store more than 22 hours of music playback on a single CD. InterVideo InstantON is a modular solution that brings the benefits of consumer electronic (CE) devices to a PC, turning it into a cost-effective home entertainment center with an access time of about 10 seconds and remote control.

With InterVideo InstantON's dual-boot configuration, a single PC can be used for both computing tasks and entertainment. It also enables consumers to share digital music and video files between Windows and Linux-based environments. When access to work-related files on the PC is required, users simply switch to the Windows mode (which requires the full Windows load time).

The current version of InstantON supports playback of MP3-CDs with rich surround sound; playback of DVD-Video, VCD, and SVCD videos with outstanding clarity; plus TV viewing and recording capabilities that consumers can enjoy from the comfort of their living room couch. InstantON can also be used for time-shifting capabilities that allow users to pause and replay live TV and record favorite shows for later viewing.

InterVideo InstantON builds on the reliability and power of InterVideo WinDVD, and LinDVD the playback/navigation software selected by industry leaders for their PCs and high-end CE devices. The PVR functionality is based on InterVideo's award-winning WinDVR and LinDVR products for viewing TV on a PC with time-shifting functionality. [an error occurred while processing this directive]

Availability InterVideo InstantON is currently available from InterVideo only to OEMs for evaluation and integration and is not sold as stand-alone retail software. The modular nature of the product enables OEMs and middleware developers to create customized solutions and to incorporate only the features that are required for a particular device.

InterVideo also offers consulting services to assist OEM InstantON customers with product planning and customization, hardware driver fine-tuning, inter-company software integration, planning test procedures and product updates.
