Dual Channel device announced at NAMM 2000 (click for larger image)

Devon, UK, August 2, 2000 -- From the original blueprints of the Trident A series, the Trident-MTA dual A series channel has been created. This is real inductive EQ, identical in design and sound to the original. By blending the best modern analog recording technology with the classic designs of the Trident Audio Developments Company, the memorable design and sound of the original Trident A series console has been preserved and authentically recreated in a package suitable for the digital studio.

The new product is a dual channel front end / classic EQ for the recording professional. Anyone who has used a Trident A-series console will instantly recognize the layout and functionality of the A series module. Featured mic pre amplifier - The input stage of the new A series channel features a warm transformer stage, featuring the original switched input gain control. Phase reverse and phantom power are standard, as well as a mic/line input switch/LED indication. High/Low pass filtering - A set of 3 high pass and 3 low pass filters are provided. These are all discrete class A amplifier second order filters, exactly as on the original. Classic inductive EQ - ‘Discrete class A amplifiers with series and parallel inductive tuned circuits controlled by linear faders’ - says the original sales literature of 1972. The design has been preserved and implemented in the new module. The only addition is an in/out switch with LED indication. Output gain control - The only real difference from the original is the transparent output gain control. We had to admit it, this is an essential addition to the A series channel, allowing the output gain to range from off to a peak output of +28dB, more than enough to drive any professional equipment.

A series Dual Discrete channel features.

  • Mic Pre Amplifier section (per channel)
  • 11 position gain switch, accurately calibrated, as used on original
  • Transformer coupled input
  • Mic/line switch with indicator LED
  • 48V Phantom switch

  • Large red overload indicator

Filtering (per channel):

  • Discrete Low Pass filters with fixed frequencies at:
    • 9K
    • 12K
    • 15K
  • Discrete High Pass filtering with fixed frequencies at:
    • 25Hz
    • 50Hz
    • 100Hz

EQ sections (per channel):

  • All EQ sections are authentic, Inductive type
  • 15dB lift/cut applied with 70mm linear faders
  • EQ frequency is selected with 4 position switch (switching tuned circuits) per band.
  • EQ bypass switch with indicator
