Martin Hairer Releases Amadeus II v3.0

Geneva, Switz., December 13, 2000 -- Martin Hairer today announced the release of Amadeus II v3.0, its premiere disk-based, Mp3 supporting, visual waveform audio file editing and analyzing application for the Mac OS.

Amadeus II lets you use your Mac OS computer for many sound-related applications, such as live audio recording, digitizing tapes and records, sampling from any external source and for editing and analyzing Mp3, AIFF, QuickTime or WAVE files. Thanks to its powerful direct-to-disk abilities, you can easily and rapidly edit large sounds of sizes up to 2GB (3 hours of CD quality music!). The handling of large sounds is facilitated by Amadeus' ability to show simultaneously the whole sound and the portion on which you are currently working and the extensive support of markers. Its outstanding sound repairing abilities make Amadeus II particularly suitable for transferring your old vinyl records on CD.

Besides these advanced editing functions including multiple undoing and multiple scraps, Amadeus II also provides various of effects that can be applied to a sound. Examples are several types of echoes, filters, fadings, the possibility to normalize part of a sound, to generate waveforms from scratch, to suppress background noise, and so on. Its open plug-in architecture even allows the experienced user to program with only a few lines of code specific filters or any arbitrary effect.

Finally, Amadeus II provides the professional user with exhaustive analyzing functions, as well on recorded sounds as in real-time on the sound input. The real-time tools include two types of spectrum analysis with 10 to 512 bands, an oscilloscope and a waterfall display. Tools available on recorded sounds include precise spectrum analysis (up to 32000 bands), animated spectrum, 3D spectrum, waveform statistics and sonograms.

Version 3.0 includes among many bug fixes and minor aesthetic changes the following major new features:

  • High-resolution sonograms
  • Support of QDesign Music 2 format
  • Raw data importing and exporting
  • Multiband RTA
  • Waterfall display
  • Exporting of sonograms as JPEG/TIFF/BMP/PNG etc
  • Windowing functions (Blackman, Kaiser, Hamming,...)
  • Better support of different sound input devices
  • Unified treatment of file formats (Mp3 is accessible from the "Save As" dialog box).
  • Marker generation
  • Dumping of real-time analysis
  • Improved sound repairing algorithm
  • Sound resampling at recording time
  • Support of arbitrary sampling rates up to 1000kHz
  • Waveform statistics and computing of average spectra

Amadeus II is a US$25 shareware. You can download it from the page http://mpej.unige.ch/~hairer/Amad2.html and from all major Macintosh software archive sites.
