Francisco, November 13, 2000 Dolby Laboratories will provide engineering
and technical assistance at the first annual HDFest (November 1316,
Thorne Hall, Northwestern University) in Chicago, Illinois. Dolby staff
will be on hand to ensure that the festivals featured films and shorts
are presented in the best possible manner. In addition, Gene Radzik, Applications
Engineer for Music and Broadcast Production at Dolby, will be giving a presentation
on the history of surround sound, in addition to co-chairing festival panels. "We are happy to provide service and support wherever we can, so that our audio technologies can enhance the broadcast, film, and DTV viewing experience," said Tom Daily, Marketing Manager, Broadcast Products for Dolby Laboratories. "Dolbys sponsorship of HDFest is a natural outgrowth of our commitment to making Dolby the entertainment industry standard for audio technology." Dolby is lending the festival a Dolby DP562 Multichannel Dolby Digital Decoder to ensure quality surround sound presentations. Some featured programs in Dolby Digital 5.1 include: Gene Roddenberrys Earth: Final Conflict, The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, and Racehoss. Mr. Radzik will give a presentation entitled "The History of Surround" which covers the evolution of audio surround formats for film and broadcast. The presentation will be held on Wednesday, November 15th, 6:30 p.m. He will also provide technical support for HDFest and will be a member of the panel discussing "The Future Ramifications of High-Definition" on Thursday, November 16th, at 10:30 p.m. About HDFest HDFest 2000 is the first occurrence of an annual event showcasing feature films, documentaries, shorts, television shows, and music videos shot in high-definition format.
