Studersystems is becoming the first Full-Service Provider for Professional Broadcasting Technology and Computer Assisted Broadcasting

Bochum, Germany; Regensdorf, Switzerland, November – VCS Nachrichtentechnik GmbH and Studer AG open a new chapter as a joint enterprise. As announced by both companies in Bochum on Friday, the businesses will be brought together under the roof of Studersystems AG. An agreement has been reached between VCS Nachrichtentechnik GmbH and Harman International Inc., the current shareholder of Studer Professional AG, whereby the newly created holding, currently still trading under VCS, can acquire the shares in Studer Professional Audio AG and in Studer’s six subsidiaries. The contract closing is planned for the end of the year.

Studersystems brings together a unique pallet of products and services for radio and TV broadcasters (private and public broadcasting organisations) and also for film studios and recording studios (post production). In addition, the new enterprise features a comprehensive project management service, a general contractor service and a world-wide sales network. The merger will create the first global player in the field of digital broadcasting with 380 employees in locations across the globe. The Studer brand name will bring a high "brand awareness" to the enterprise and provide notable references in all parts of the world.

The future chairman of the board, Dr. Klaus-G. Meng, stated, "Studersystems AG is the result of a merger between two highly innovative, complementary companies." Both the spectrum of products and services and the client groups fit each other excellently. The new enterprise develops, produces and offers complete solutions for the world wide market in "radio and TV Broadcasting Solutions", "Post Production Solutions" and "Satellite and Data Communications" business segments. Studersystems' fully fledged technology and complete solutions know-how, paves the way into the digital age for radio and TV establishments world-wide. In the "Satellite and Data Communications" segment, Studersystems has Studer & VCS 24 November, 2000 positioned itself as a full service and system provider for control, reception and distribution technology for satellites. In the future, the increasing commercialisation and expansion of the application areas in satellite technology will greatly accelerate the growth of this business segment. Studersystems will continue to offer innovative solutions for film studios and recording studios in the business segment Post Production.

As the first international full service provider of professional studio technology and computer-assisted broadcasting, Studersystems enters the market with excellent references. Furthermore, as a global player, the company’s goal is to become the leading provider in this field. To this end, Studersystems has announced considerable investments in the expansion and further development of existing products and services. Further objectives include expanding the international sales network and to increase brand awareness. The designated sales and marketing director, Bruno Hochstrasser, explained that “Studersystems can not only react better to the requirements of the market with better technology and solutions but also due to its global market presence meet the demands of the world wide market.” In addition, he mentioned the increasing demand of clients desiring a general contractor capable of integrating increasingly complex systems.

Additional growth factors include the continuing liberalisation of the radio and TV markets that will lead to further broadcast frequencies and thus lead to an increasing number of stations. Due to the increasing media convergence, the digitalisation for radio and TV broadcasters has become a fundamental prerequisite, and continues to be a necessity if successful participation in the future market is to be ensured. The tools such as computer assisted broadcasting are only the beginning of a wide scale market reorganisation.

Studersystems is expecting a clear increase in turnover for the coming financial year. For almost 20 years VCS from Bochum is a synonym for high-tech applications. Today, its business segments encompass systems in digital broadcasting techno logy for radio and TV stations, meteorological satellite reception systems, and IT solutions for space travel. With 95 employees, VCS achieved a turnover of over 13 millions Euro in 1999. Studer AG can look back on a no less successful yet notably more turbulent past. Founded in 1948, the company from Regensdorf near Zurich employs a workforce of approximately 260 employees. Studer's six distribution and service companies supply radio and TV stations, film studios and recording studios (post production) on three continents.
