Minneapolis, Minn., October 27, 2000 -- Minnetonka and Microboards have teamed up to produce MASS 5.1, a bundled product for creating DVD-Audio disks.

Pioneer DVD-R

The bundle includes the Mx51 program, the MASS 5.1 program, and a Pioneer DVD-R burner. Mx51 is a program for mixing to 5.1 Surround Sound. It uses Minnetonka’s unique Build-Your-Own-Mixer architecture, and a Surround panner can be put on every channel to place each track in the Surround soundfield. All Surround panners can be automated, so that you can record the motion of sounds around the room. Mx51 includes an interface for a motorized joystick, so that you can feel the Surround panning as you hear it.

The MASS 5.1 program lets you compile your recordings for making a DVD. Just drag-and-drop soundfiles from one window to another to create your playlist. Then hit the “Record” button, and the program will burn your DVD-Audio disk. The program can accept 5.1 Surround recordings as 6 soundfiles or as an MLP-encoded soundfile. The program can also place stereo recordings on the DVD. The MASS 5.1 program works with all sample rates and bit depths allowed by the DVD-Audio
format.

Included in the package is a Pioneer S201 DVD-R recorder. The DVD drive connects to the computer through a SCSI port, and can be used to make data DVD’s as well as audio DVD’s. The MASS 5.1 system runs under Windows 98, 2000, or NT. Price is $8495. Projected availability is December 2000.
