Los Angeles, Calif.,
September 28, 2000 -- TASCAM is continuing the trend it began at last
year's AES of introducing 24-bit audio products by unveiling the DM-24
digital mixing console (MSRP $2,999). Representing a leap in the design
of powerful, affordable small-format digital recording consoles, the DM-24
features excellent audio quality, highly flexible routing, extremely powerful
built-in automation, built-in professional-quality effects, dynamics processing
and parametric EQ. In addition, the DM-24 is an ideal companion for the
MX-2424, TASCAM's 24-track, 24-bit hard-disk recorder, creating a completely
integrated 24-bit, 96kHz recording system.
The DM-24's 24-bit digital converters and up to 96kHz sampling rates offer extremely high-quality mixing for a variety of applications, including mixing for standard CD or more advanced applications in surround encoding or DVD authoring. As the first affordable mixer with true 96kHz capabilities and full 24-bit performance throughout the signal path, the DM-24 is a perfect companion for the TASCAM MX-2424 24-track, 24-bit, hard-disk recorder. In addition, full transport control, LED ring encoders, hierarchical grouping and smooth 100mm motorized faders make the DM-24 an excellent console for any serious studio. The DM-24 also provides users with powerful automation capabilities, which are built into the mixer and require no external computer or additional software. Up to eight entire mixes can be stored in the DM-24 and, once a new mix is opened, the DM-24 automatically goes into automation mode so that any static changes made are instantly saved and dynamic moves are written with only one key press. In addition, users can offload all automation data via MIDI. The DM-24's standard interfaces allow easy integration into any studio environment. In addition to its 16 analog inputs with XLR mic, 1/4-inch line inputs, and analog inserts on each input channel, the console includes 24 channels of TDIF interfacing plus eight channels of ADAT optical I/O, one stereo AES/EBU and two stereo S/PDIF interfaces. Two option slots are also provided for additional 8-channel analog, digital and cascade interface modules. The DM-24 also features four 1/4-inch TRS inserts that can be assigned to any digital recorder return, as well as detailed capabilities of routing audio internally throughout the mixer. Extensive outputs and monitoring choices are also provided. TASCAM has teamed with TC Electronic and Antares to offer high-quality reverb, mic modeling and speaker modeling for the DM-24. The DM-24's fully adjustable effects offer the excellent quality needed for primary vocal tracks with the convenience of being an integral part of the mixer itself. With highly configurable gates, fully parametric 4-band EQs and compression on each of the 24 input channels, the DM-24 offers everything needed for great mixes built right into the mixer. The DM-24 also provides eight auxiliary channels for effects returns and other needs. Each channel also features a custom-designed delay with an innovative circuit design that compensates for fixed latencies within a digital studio.
