Latest Pro Tools Release Signals Company's Re-Entry Into Home Studio Market

Palo Alto, Calif., June 21, 2000 -- Digidesign, the audio division of Avid Technology, Inc.announced this week that it has begun shipping Pro Tools LE for the Microsoft Windows 98 platform. In addition, the company's SampleCell II Plus product, an audio sample editing and playback application that integrates with Pro Tools, is now available for Windows 98.

In the past few years, Pro Tools has become a leader in digital audio production system, gaining wide acceptance in professional recording and video post-production facilities. The processing power of these high-end Pro Tools systems comes from dedicated hardware that is installed in the user's computer. Both of Digidesign's home studio products, the Digi 001 and Digi ToolBox XP, are powered by Pro Tools LE software. "Digidesign has reinforced its commitment to the Windows platform with these new versions of Pro Tools LE and SampleCell," said David Froker, General Manager of Digidesign. "And with this cross-platform, host-based release, we are in an excellent position to leverage future advances in computer processing power."

Digidesign's Digi 001 system has been available for Macintosh computers since November 1999. "The Digi 001 has quickly become a significant part of our business," said John Rechsteiner, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, "and we expect that demand will increase even more now that we're shipping on Windows 98."
