21st UK AES Conference to Address ''Audio at Home'' Exploring advances in consumer technology (March 29, 2006) The AES UK Section Committee?s 21st annual conference (http://aes.org/ukconference), will focus on ?Audio at Home.? Scheduled for Thursday and Friday April 6 & 7 in New Hall College, Cambridge, the conference will offer a special AES Technical Education Day on Saturday, April 8.

A fundamental element of home entertainment systems, today?s audio technology is increasingly required to complement the aesthetic as well as the acoustic performance issues of home decor and consumer lifestyles. Participants will explore the market place, industrial design, new high-definition audio/video formats and how transducer and electronics design is adapting to the needs of the twenty-first century household.

Targeted at the home audio community, the conference will present a lively, informative program of talks and seminars featuring respected engineers, designers, resellers, academics and market researchers.  There will also be opportunities for both formal and informal discussions.

Speakers will include: Nick Simon, GfK: What Consumers Want to Buy; Bob Brace, Nokia: Industrial Design For Mass Consumer Products; Tony Spath, Dolby Laboratories: Audio Coding for Future Entertainment Formats; Bob Stuart, Meridian Audio: Active Loudspeakers; Mark Dodd & Jack Oclee-Brown, KEF: Surround With Fewer Speakers; John Dawson, Aream: HDMI Video Primer; Peter Willison, Gcap Media, Broadcasting High Definition Audio To The Home, and many other industry leaders.

The Apr. 8th Education Day will offer demonstration sessions ranging from High Definition Digital Cinema and Surround Audio to a practical workshop on How To Optimize a Domestic TV and Surround Audio System.  The Day also features a nostalgic demonstration of Direct-To-Vinyl Disc Cutting, with musicians from the internationally-renowned Coull and Alberni string quartets. It is open to the full conference delegate and any one else interested in audio.

The 21st AES UK Conference is now open for reservations. Full details can be found at http://aes.org/ukconference.

They've come pre-wired and we're still trying to figure out how to IM. It's the IGen. They want it instantly. They want to use it instantly. They expect their photos, their video, their music, their stuff immediately when/where/how they want it. Read More

Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers." Read More
